Florida East Coast Boat Adventures
Selected East Coast destinations are available to experienced boaters who meet Surfside's operator-qualification requirements. Enjoy protected Intracoastal waters, coastal fishing and, where specifically approved, Atlantic access.
Why Advanced Approval?
A Higher Tier of Coastal Boating
Florida's Atlantic Coast offers incredible boating, fishing and waterfront destinations, but conditions can be more demanding than many inland and protected-water trips. Inlets, tides, currents, wind and ocean conditions can change quickly. For that reason, Surfside requires additional operator experience before approving certain East Coast trips.
Coastal Experience
Previous experience operating similar powerboats in coastal or saltwater environments.
Navigation Knowledge
Comfort using charts, GPS, depth information and navigation aids.
Vessel Handling
Demonstrated confidence with docking, slow-speed maneuvering and safe boat operation.
Surfside Check Ride
Every approved operator must successfully complete Surfside's required vessel orientation and on-water evaluation.
Proving Previous Boating Experience
Documented Experience
Surfside may request reasonable documentation showing previous boating experience before approving an Advanced Coastal rental. Examples may include:
Documentation requirements may vary depending on destination and requested operating area.
A Successful Check Ride Is Required
Documentation alone does not guarantee approval. Every operator must successfully complete Surfside's required safety orientation and on-water check ride before taking custody of the vessel.
Surfside may limit or decline an operating area if the renter cannot demonstrate safe vessel handling. This helps protect the renter, the vessel and everyone sharing the water.
Operating-Area Approval Levels
Approval Is Layered
Within an East Coast destination, Surfside can approve different operating areas based on experience, conditions and your approved destination. Approval for one area does not automatically grant access to another.
Inshore / Protected Water Approved
May include the Intracoastal Waterway, lagoons, rivers and other approved protected waters.
Coastal Access Approved
May include additional approved coastal waters beyond protected inshore areas.
Atlantic Access Approved
Available only where all of the following are met:
- Insurer permits it
- Surfside specifically approves it
- Operator meets experience requirements
- Weather and sea conditions are acceptable
Permitted operating areas and offshore limits are confirmed before departure.
Conditions Always Come First
Weather Overrides Experience
Previous boating experience does not override weather or operating restrictions. Surfside may modify or restrict an approved operating area based on wind, seas, tides, inlet conditions, storms, marine advisories or other safety concerns.
A renter may be approved for an East Coast destination while Atlantic access is temporarily unavailable.
Not Approved for Atlantic? There's Still a Trip.
Not approved for Atlantic operation? Depending on the destination, Surfside may still approve your rental for designated Intracoastal, lagoon or protected-water areas. Many East Coast trips never require leaving protected waters.

Waterfront Vacation Rentals
Staying Waterfront? Bring the Boat With You.
East Coast waterfront vacation rentals can be a great fit for experienced Surfside renters. When the property has suitable permitted dock access, launch from a confirmed Surfside location and keep the boat available during your stay.
Launch Once
Use a confirmed Surfside launch location near your destination.
Keep It At Your Stay
If your waterfront property has suitable permitted dock access, keep the boat right outside during your trip.
Boat On Your Schedule
Fish at sunrise, cruise to dinner, visit the sandbar or head back onto the water whenever you want.
Before booking, confirm with your Airbnb host, vacation-rental owner or property manager that boat docking is permitted and that the dock and water access are suitable for the vessel.

Advanced Coastal rentals require Surfside operator approval before the reservation is confirmed. Previous boating experience and a successful Surfside check ride are required. Final operating areas depend on your approved destination, operator qualification and current conditions.
